Newcomer Voices: Young Men Ending GBV is a transformative program by Active Newcomer Youth Ottawa (ANYO) designed to engage and empower newcomer and immigrant young men to become allies in preventing gender-based violence (GBV). The initiative seeks to challenge harmful norms, promote gender equity, and foster safer, more inclusive communities by equipping participants with the tools, knowledge, and mentorship needed to take meaningful action.

This program provides a safe space for young men to explore issues surrounding masculinity, power dynamics, and cultural expectations while learning to support survivors of GBV and advocate for gender equity. Through interactive workshops, peer-led discussions, and mentorship, participants develop critical skills to recognize and challenge behaviors and attitudes that perpetuate violence.

Grounded in the lived experiences of GBV survivors and supported by the expertise of frontline service providers, the program aims to address root causes of violence while creating opportunities for young men to lead change within their families, communities, and beyond. Drawing from decades of activism by women, LGBTQ2S+ advocates, and equity movements, Newcomer Voices ensures an inclusive, culturally responsive approach to ending GBV.
